Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission aligned Audio Visual Technician for our Information Technology Department.
The Audio Visual Technician will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Audio Visual Technician with IT support skills to join our team. This individual will be responsible for managing audio-visual equipment and supporting IT services as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in audio-visual technology, outstanding problem-solving skills, and the ability to support staff and students in utilizing technology effectively.

Minimum Qualifications
- 1 – 2 years of experience in Audio/Visual Technology, Information Technology, or related field preferred; relevant experience will be considered.
- Proven experience in audio-visual setup, operation, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of IT systems, hardware, software, and networking principles.

Working Conditions:
- Flexible hours are required, including evenings and weekends for special events.
- May involve lifting and moving heavy equipment.
- Occasional travel within Harlem will be needed for off-site events.
What You’ll Do
Audio-Visual Equipment Management:
- Set up, configure, and operate audio-visual equipment for various events, including presentations, meetings, and school functions.
- Conduct regular maintenance and troubleshooting of AV systems, including projectors, sound systems, and video conferencing equipment.
- Ensure all AV equipment is in working order and readily available for use by faculty and students.
- Provide training and assistance to staff and students on how to effectively use AV equipment.
IT Support Services:
- Provide technical support for hardware and software issues that arise within the organization.
- Assist in the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer systems, networks, and peripherals.
- Support users in resolving IT-related inquiries and issues promptly.
- Work collaboratively with the IT team to implement new software solutions and assist with system updates.
Event Coordination:
- Collaborate with school administrators and event coordinators to determine AV needs for specific events.
- Assist in planning and executing community outreach events, ensuring seamless integration of AV technology.
- Create and maintain documentation related to audio-visual setups for future reference.
Technology Integration:
- Assist educators in integrating technology into the curriculum, including the use of AV tools for classroom instruction.
- Keep abreast of new audio-visual technologies and trends; recommend upgrades and improvements as necessary.
Training and Development:
- Develop and conduct training sessions for staff and students on the use of audio-visual equipment and IT systems.
- Create user guides and instructional materials to facilitate self-service technology usage.
Schedule
- Tuesday through Friday, 2-7 PM and Saturday, 9 AM-3 PM
