Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead to join our Data Governance COE team. This role will be crucial in enhancing our data governance framework, focusing on data privacy, data retention, data use, and data protection. The Data Governance Lead will develop, implement, and govern processes that enable the business to harness the power of data responsibly and in compliance with policy, fostering a culture of accountability and ethical data management across the organization. The Data Governance Lead will also play a pivotal role in the implementation and advancement of the Enterprise Data Catalog to establish a central hub for connecting business processes, roles and responsibilities, policies, standards, and controls to Huntington's most critical data assets.

The Data Governance Center of Excellence (COE) is responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards for data management across the organization. This includes defining a clear vision and strategy aligned with organizational goals, securing top management commitment, and engaging stakeholders. The COE develops and enforces data governance policies, appoints data stewards, and implements processes to monitor and improve metadata quality. Additionally, it provides training to foster a data-driven culture and continuously refines practices to adapt to changing business needs. By ensuring effective data management and governance frameworks, the COE supports better decision-making and improved business outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process Development and Implementation: Design and implement processes supporting data privacy, protection, retention, and appropriate usage, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Data Privacy and Protection: Support and lead initiatives to safeguard data privacy and protection, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, PCI-DSS) and best practices.
  • Data Retention Management: Develop and manage processes for data retention, ensuring data is stored appropriately and disposed of securely when no longer needed.
  • Data Use Oversight: Establish and manage processes to monitor and regulate data usage, ensuring it aligns with organizational policies and ethical standards.
  • Business Support: Collaborate with business units to understand their data needs and provide guidance on leveraging data responsibly and effectively.
  • Framework Implementation: Define and implement a data governance framework outlining business roles and responsibilities, ensuring clear accountability and effective data management practices across the organization.
  • Collaboration with CDAO Team: Work closely with Chief Data and Architecture Office (CDAO) team members to leverage data catalog tools and other data management and quality tools, enhancing data discoverability and usability.
  • Organizational Change Management: Implement new processes requiring organizational change management, ensuring smooth transitions and adoption across the organization.
  • Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on data governance principles and best practices, promoting a data-driven culture.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly assess and refine data governance processes to adapt to evolving business needs and technological advancements.
  • Business Requirements Gathering: Gather, document, and analyze business requirements to ensure data governance processes meet the needs of various stakeholders and align with organizational goals.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data governance processes, policies, and standards to ensure clarity and consistency across the organization
  • Federation Support: Support the federation of data governance across business segments, ensuring consistent application of data governance policies and practices throughout the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  •  7+ years of experience implementing data governance frameworks (e.g., data policies, standards, and controls), experience developing and/or implementing data governance policy and standards, and experience working with IT and/or business segments on the analysis of complex business processes and data governance needs
  • 3+ years experience in data governance, data privacy, and data protection
  • 2+
