What You Bring to the Table
To evaluate, measure, assess, control and finance the operational and legal risks associated with the Company’s operations, management and related strategies in a manner consistent with the Company’s acceptable levels of risk retention. To plan, design and implement industry specific, world class risk management programs and processes which protect assets, people, net income and liability. To lead the management and project teams as the company’s primary source of internal expertise on insurance matters, contract risk and rates. To manage and direct insurance claims and litigation. To ensure that staff is fully utilized and developed and that strong relationships are maintained with all business units in a manner consistent with Company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, assess, evaluate, quantify, control and finance exposures to loss from Company management and operations; Plan, coordinate, implement and monitor effective and efficient procedures for controlling risk, financing loss, and minimizing exposure to the Company:
- Understand the risk associated with the Company’s operational and business strategies
- Understand the Company’s risk retention philosophies
- Identify and obtain operational information needed to make sound risk decisions
- Actively manage all insured claims and litigation; develop and implement resolution strategies in coordination with Legal Department for all disputes; actively manage adjuster and claims administrators activities, setting and enforcing authority levels; closely monitor all reserve activity
- Engage outside actuary to evaluate loss reserves and captive funding twice a year
- Manage relationship with Captive Manager, reviewing all work and periodic financials
- Assess and evaluate contractual documents and work situations to determine potential risk and liability in a manner that insures all contractual, operational, and business risks have been identified and that risk solutions are consistent with the Company’s acceptable levels of risk retention
- Make recommendations to reduce/control risk which may involve risk financing alternatives or placement of insurance coverage, and which will protect against residual risk or unplanned costs
- Develop and maintain familiarity with insurance markets, legislative activity and court decisions related to risk management issues
- Proactively advise management on new initiatives within the surety and insurance markets
- Take the lead in evaluation of contractual terms and conditions on high risk and/or new business ventures
- Take corrective action and/or refers problems to appropriate area within the Company
- Develop overall departmental strategic plan
- Assist department managers with specific problems, issues, contract liabilities, and questions
- Manage relationships with surety and insurance underwriters
- Convey Company’s risk retention philosophies as relates to specific market
- Manages underwriters risk concerns
- Provide leadership in compliance, risk management and corporate governance
- Monitor that all risk management standards and guidelines are being followed
- Maintain strong communication and excellent working relationships with other business units
- Develop networks to solicit information and promote the Company’s risk philosophies
- Implement quality processes to insure effective decision making and continuous
- improvement of all activities
- Support and participate in Company’s Strategic Planning activities
