About the College of Nursing

As among the oldest nursing schools in the country, the UC College of Nursing is a model of transdisciplinary research recognized for its impact and innovation. To further expand our strategic mission, we are hiring a Post Doctoral Fellow to support research efforts on a grant funded project with one year duration.
 

Job Overview

The College of Nursing at the University of Cincinnati is seeking to fill a post-doctoral position in applied data science to contribute to research efforts related to investigating factors associated with prenatal opioid exposure in large electronic health record (EHR) and medical claims data. The project is entitled: Understanding Prenatal Opioid Exposure Disparities in Ohio and the project is expected begin July 1, 2024 and end on June 30, 2025.

Essential Functions

• Data Handling: Extract, clean, and manage large-scale EHR and medical claims data from diverse sources.
• Analysis and Prediction: Conduct advanced data analysis, apply machine learning techniques, and predict patterns.
• Visualization: Create informative data visualizations, including charts and graphs.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, share findings, and contribute to a collaborative research environment.
• Research Support: Conduct literature reviews, document research methodologies, adhere to ethical guidelines, and assist in grant writing.
• Communication and Passion: Effectively communicate research findings to diverse audiences and have a genuine interest in prenatal opioid exposure research.
• Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
• Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. 
• Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well

Required Education

Doctoral degree (PhD)

Required Experience

• Ph.D. and advanced training in statistics and data science demonstrable through
  o         Coursework
  o         Certificates
  o         Letters of recommendation
  ·         Research Proficiency: Demonstrate expertise in data analysis, data handling, and machine learning, particularly with healthcare data. Previous publications and grant writing experience.
  ·         Collaboration and Passion: Have a track record of interdisciplinary collaboration, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for prenatal opioid exposure research.

Additional Qualifications Considered

·         Data Security and Compliance: Familiarity with healthcare data privacy (e.g., HIPAA).
·         Publication Record: A publication record in peer-reviewed journals related to data science, healthcare, or prenatal opioid exposure research.
·         Project Leadership: Experience leading research projects or managing research teams.
