Job Description
The External Communications Manager for Revenue Lines works with various revenue lines and their respective subject matter experts as well as relevant partners across Public Affairs & Communications to develop and implement strong external communication plans that will assist in meeting company goals and objectives by enhancing external visibility around topics of strategic importance. The ideal candidate evaluates complex information and strategically determines appropriate strategies and tactics to increase visibility in alignment with company goals. This role will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with reporters and news outlets; identifying opportunities, developing content for and managing the execution of direct engagement with media; prepping executives and facilitating interviews; tracking results to inform future tactics among other things. This role engages directly with external audiences, including members of the media, on behalf of U.S. Bank.
Plans, manages, and executes external communication strategies to ensure effective, compelling communication to employees, shareholders, and the community. Works with various business groups and senior management to develop and implement strong communication plans that will assist in meeting company goals and objectives. Evaluates complex information and strategically determines appropriate method of communication based on topic and company goals. Edits internal and external publications, writes speeches and provides media support. Sources and creates content for owned channels and for use in securing earned media placements. Supports media training for subject matter experts as well as the creation of briefing materials and talking points for external activities.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
Eight to ten years of experience in communications activities
Preferred Skills/Experience
Experience interacting with news outlets in support of media relations activities
Proven communication management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong research, analysis, and interviewing skills
Well-developed organizational and project management skills
Ability to negotiate and influence internal and external parties
