About the role
<p>We are seeking an experienced Mid-Level Associate to join our International Trade Law practice in Brussels.</p><p>The successful candidate will join an highly specialized and growing team that advises high-profile private clients and government entities on a wide range of international trade matters, including trade remedies, export controls and international sanctions, customs, public international law, trade policy and trade regulatory matters (e.g., CBAM, EUDR). </p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul> <li> <strong>Represent clients</strong> in trade remedy investigations in the EU and in the UK.</li> <li> <strong>Assist clients</strong> with export control and sanctions compliance matters, including navigating licensing processes and handling enforcement issues.</li> <li> <strong>Provide advice</strong> <strong>and assist clients on</strong>:</li> </ul><p>a) sanctions compliance and enforcement procedures in different EU Member States,</p><p>b) dual-use goods and export licensing, </p><p>c) customs classification and rules of origin, including representation in front of the National Customs Authorities,</p><p>d) broader public international law and international trade matters.</p><ul> <li> <strong>Navigate</strong> clients through the complex EU regulatory legislation impacting global supply chains. </li> <li> <strong>Prepare internal training </strong>on various trade-related matters for our clients.</li> <li> <strong>Collaborate with colleagues</strong> across Fieldfisher's offices in different jurisdictions. </li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li>In addition to holding a master's degree, the ideal candidate should have between 3-5 years of experience in international trade law.</li> <li>Qualified to practice law in an EU Member State.</li> <li>Strong proficiency in trade defense instruments, international sanctions, EU export control law, customs law.</li> <li>Strong analytical, research, and writing skills, paired with keen attention to details.</li> <li>Ability to operate independently and collaboratively within the network of Fieldfisher’s offices. </li> <li>Working proficiency in English is imperative; proficiency in additional languages such as French, Dutch, German or Spanish will be advantageous.</li> <li>LL.M. from a reputable law school in the US or the UK is a plus.</li> </ul><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><ul> <li>Competitive remuneration and benefits package commensurate with experience.</li> <li>Opportunities for professional growth and development, including participation in specialized training programs.</li> <li>Direct engagement with clients. </li> <li>Direct collaboration with the heads of International Trade practices in Brussels and London, offering valuable exposure to high-level strategic decision-making.</li> <li>A flexible, collaborative and inclusive work environment that values diversity and promotes a culture of respect.</li> <li>The opportunity to engage with high-profile international trade matters, influencing impactful global business decisions.</li> </ul>
