Your Specific Responsibilities:
The employee will provide evidence-based curriculum to Marion County residents on nutrition, physical activity, and diabetes.
The employee will submit reports and adhere to all budget allocations by ordering and submitting purchasing orders for annual budgets. The employee will develop/utilize approved educational materials/teaching tools pertinent to promoting healthy eating and an active lifestyle. These materials will be disseminated through classes, community events, promotional campaigns, presentation, etc. Employee will need to travel to community events and outreach.
Plan and coordinate healthy decision-making community efforts, including developing partnerships, programs and initiatives geared toward meeting the needs of Marion County individuals to maximize their health and wellness.
Represents the Department of Health at community meetings and serves on councils, and task forces in a positive, professional manner. Actively follows program topics across state and national level for trends.
Serve as a community outreach liaison for the Department of Health, with the objective of improving public health outcomes for Marion County residents, in alignment with the Community Health Improvement Plan
Other duties as assigned: to include shelter duty and participation in special departmental events.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of community health education.
- Knowledge of basic public health marketing principles.
- Skills in operating a personal computer.
- Ability to develop and deliver health education and community development services to others.
- Ability to communicate effectively - oral and written
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, including Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher.
- Ability to design and produce health promotion and public health educational materials.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners and others.
- Ability to operate audiovisual equipment.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 30 lbs. or more – unassisted.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM-
Experience teaching / presenting to youth or adults
FL Drivers License
PREFERRED-
Experience working with community partners
Experience working in chronic disease/nutrition
Bachelor's Degree
