Job Description Summary
MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.The Medical Assistant performs assigned patient care activities and related administrative duties under direct supervision of Providers and Office Manager. Specific patient care responsibilities will be assigned after competency is established.

Job Description
•The Medical Assistant reports to the Office Manager. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical record. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.•Basic computer skills required. Annual competencies are required to be maintained. Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of patient care procedures and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Minimum Education and Experience:
•High School Diploma or Equivalent
•6 months of experience in a patient care setting
•A bachelor’s degree in a science or health-related field can be substituted for the required experience
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
•Current Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.•If you do not have your current BLS you will be required to complete a course offered by MUSC.Additional Job Description

Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force are needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force are required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.
