Job Description:
The NIC acts as fiduciary on behalf of the State’s Retirement Plans, Operating Investment Pool, College Savings Plan, and other Trusts and Endowments. We deliver investment management services to provide direct financial benefit exclusively to the owners of these funds.
Examples of Work
• Balance and reconcile ledgers, journals, worksheets and accounting data to verify that postings are complete and accurate.
• Interpret appropriate federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and standards to ensure compliance and efficient operations in accordance with prescribed accounting principles, theories, and concepts.
• Plan, design, implement and monitor all GASB requirements and reports.
• Advise on accounting procedures and policies to answer inquiries and provide professional guidance in the resolution of accounting problems.
• Extract, compile, study, analyze and interpret financial data from NIC’s custodial bank and other sources to develop and prepare reports to assist staff in analyzing, forecasting, financial planning, budgeting, and decision making.
• Work on budget preparation and monitoring.
Requirements/ Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, statistics, business administration or related field; OR Associates degree in accounting, finance, statistics, business administration or related field and two years’ experience with professional accounting procedures; OR four years’ experience with professional accounting procedures including developing public accounting systems, modifying public accounting systems, and financial management consultation.
Preferred Qualifications: Four to six years work experience in accounting or investments. Nebraska State accounting systems experience and knowledge of governmental accounting.
