Assistant Coordinator (Program Associate) of Learning and Engagement, K-12 and Community

Overview

Are you passionate about making visual art education engaging, interactive, and accessible? Do you love working with children, leading hands-on activities, and bringing creativity to the classroom and beyond? The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art (NEHMA) at Utah State University seeks a dedicated and dynamic Assistant Coordinator to help organize, schedule, develop, and deliver hands-on educational programs for K-12 students and the broader community, as it is the only art museum within an 80-mile radius of Logan.

 

In this role, you will play a key part in connecting students with the power of art through museum visits, classroom presentations, and outreach programs using our Mobile Art Truck. You will also collaborate with student workers and schools, helping to shape a curriculum that aligns with NEHMA’s mission.

 

This is a .75 FTE position that includes working occasionally on evenings, weekend events, and overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students during museum field trips, which typically involve 100 children, and at community events with attendance ranging from 30 to 200 people. 35%
• Teach and present at outreach events, including STEM/STEAM nights, classroom visits, and Mobile Art Truck programs across Utah. 20%
• Collaborate with the education team to design lesson plans and activities that connect with public interests and the NEHMA collection. 20%
• Oversee and guide student employees from NEHMA’s visitor services who assist with educational programs at NEHMA. 5%
• Assist in scheduling and logistics for K-12 outreach and on-site field trips. 15%
• Help with event setup and operations, including lifting tables, chairs, and art supplies and driving the Mobile Art Truck. 5%

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• An associate’s degree with an emphasis in education, art history, visual art, museum studies, or a related field; OR two years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Passion for visual art, museums, art education, and working with children of all ages and backgrounds.
• Availability for evening, weekend, and overnight travel for outreach events.
• A valid driver’s license (for outreach and Mobile Art Truck programs).

Skills You Need:

• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, research, and basic graphic design tools.
• Comfortable with public speaking and engaging diverse audiences.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends for special events and outreach programs.

Advertised Salary

Minimum $37,440 commensurate with experience and excellent benefits.
