Details of Research Project:
Environmental exposures are a major determinant of the children’s health; however, a systematic understanding of these exposures and their biological effects remains uncharacterized. During this post-doctoral project, the incumbent candidate will analyze metabolomics and exposomics datasets from population level studies to identify new environmental chemical exposures and their toxic effects on the metabolic processes. The candidate will utilize these datasets from the existing cohorts at the Mount Sinai Hospital System and various NIH funded data repositories. The candidate will curate and interpret the correlation relationships between chemical exposures and endogenous metabolites. These exposures and metabolic processes will be associated with mother and children’s health outcomes in neurodevelopment, immune response, respiratory and cardiovascular endpoints.
The candidate will be responsible for –
- Accessing data from the MSHS and NIH repositories
- Processing the data using computational mass spectrometry software and databases
- Preparing datasets in a standardized format
- Analyzing the datasets using different statistical methods
- Conducting various bioinformatics analysis for omics data interpretation
- Preparing the manuscripts
- Contributing to the grant proposals
Educational and other Requirements for the position: PhD degree in a biological science
Experience Required: 1-2 years of post-PhD research experience in an academic institution.
Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project:
The project will fill knowledge gaps in our understanding about how chemical exposures affect metabolic processes in the human body at critical life stages and how those effects are linked to the health outcomes. The candidate will publish at least 4 first author papers that can help advance candidate’s career.
