Job Summary:
The School of Dental Medicine (SDM) has an opening for a Clinical Informatics and Data Analyst. This role is responsible for supporting the clinical enterprise through the reliable operation of clinical applications and the delivery of high-quality reporting and analytics. The Clinical Informatics and Data Analyst serves as a primary resource for end-user support, helps maintain a positive and efficient application environment, and contributes to a data-driven culture across the school.
A central focus of this position is the design, development, and maintenance of clinical and business intelligence reporting. The analyst uses multiple reporting platforms, primarily Microsoft Power BI, to transform operational data into dashboards, reports, and insights that guide decision-making and advance institutional goals. Responsibilities include building data models, writing queries and scripts, validating data quality, and optimizing reports for performance and usability.
The role also supports process improvement by documenting application workflows, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending system or reporting enhancements that strengthen operations. The Clinical Informatics and Data Analyst collaborates closely with faculty, staff, students, and technical partners to understand business requirements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure that reporting and application practices comply with SDM and university policies. The position is part of the Clinical Applications and Informatics team and contributes to a high-quality, efficient, and well-supported clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting & Analytics – 75%
Develop, maintain, and enhance clinical and business reports and dashboards across multiple platforms, including Microsoft Power BI, Crystal Reports, and Tableau.
Build data models and relationships to support efficient, scalable reporting solutions.
Write SQL queries and scripts to extract, transform, validate, and analyze data from relational databases.
Create standardized and ad-hoc reports for clinical, operational, academic, and administrative units.
Ensure data integrity through validation, reconciliation, and routine quality checks.
Partner with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into actionable analytics.
Optimize report performance, usability, and accessibility for diverse end-user groups.
Document data definitions, reporting logic, and metrics to ensure consistency and clarity across the organization.
Identify trends, gaps, or opportunities using data insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
Maintain version control and governance processes for dashboards, reports, and related data assets.
