Music Therapist (Creative Arts-Riley Full-time)

About the role

Uses music creatively to help patients address social, emotional and physical difficulties. Creates shared musical experiences with patients in pursuit of therapeutic goals based on the therapist's assessment and the patient's needs. Supports a wide range of patient and family needs, including pain management, emotional expression and support, self-esteem, palliative and end of life care, gross and fine motor skills, and socialization.

• Requires 1-3 years of experience in music therapy.
• Requires knowledge of and ability to utilize a wide variety of musical instruments.
• Requires knowledge of music therapy principles, concepts and methodologies, along with their uses in the assessment of patients' musical and non-musical behaviors.
• Must be able to implement musical activities that will facilitate non-musical goals (pain management, emotional expression and support, self-esteem, etc.).
• Requires the ability to provide clinical consultation, including the ability to evaluate and document patient progress in the hospital charting system.
• Requires practical knowledge of music theory, music improvisation, adaptive music instruction and be self-motivated in creating new methods of incorporating music as a therapeutic experience for patients.
• Must be able to manage, maintain and update music resources (music library, instruments, session plans, etc.).
• Knowledge of current music making and recording software, music notation and basic electronic media skills is preferred. Requires (MT-BC) Music Therapist-Board Certified upon offer of employment.
• Must be a Board Certified Music Therapist.
