This position will assist with research efforts in our food ingredients division with an emphasis on applications research in bakery, beverage, dairy, alternative protein, and meat products.
Semester Offered: Summer/Fall 2024 (This is a co-op opportunity that will require you to work 40 hours/week in-person. Students typically take a full semester off from school or enroll in a reduced online or night class schedule during the length of their co-op.)
I’m interested! What will I get to do in this position?
- Assist in research and applications work for food applications (bakery, beverage, dairy, alternative protein, and meat) containing various functional ingredients
- Conduct data analysis and provide interpretation, draw conclusions from a variety of microbiological, chemical and physical tests
- Conduct basic analytical testing (pH, texture analysis, water activity, moisture, viscosity, etc.) to support product development and applications work
- Maintain lab operations and other relevant performance data; keep lab areas and equipment calibrated, clean, and operational
- Participate in site safety activities
What skills and experience do I need to be successful in this role?
- Pursuing a B.S. degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field
- Completed sophomore year in college or recent graduate (December 2023 graduate to start in January 2024 or May 2024 to start in May 2024)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
- Strong focus on data collection and documentation
- Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
- Motivation and willingness to learn
- Strong computer skills
- Must have reliable and consistent transportation to accommodate being present in the office for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
