Detailed Description:

How Will You Make an Impact?

Interns at Brown and Caldwell make a daily, material impact by completing support duties to advance their team’s projects and objectives. They receive professional training and the support of their team. Interns can expect to be onboarded, mentored, and developed by industry leaders to develop real-life skills and make an impact on their assigned projects. Projects this role may work on include:

  • PFAS design for multiple water utilities to support compliance with upcoming regulatory timelines
  • Greenfield groundwater treatment design
  • Water quality analyses
  • Pilot testing
  • Water system planning

As a Drinking Water intern, you can expect your experience to include the following:

  • Work closely with project manager and other team members to execute work involving conventional types of civil, environmental, and/or mechanical engineering principles and other related activities for water treatment projects.
  • Mentored by national drinking water subject matter experts (SMEs) who are known across the industry for their expertise
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (e.g., drafters, designers, and other engineers).
  • Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.
  • Perform data entry, analysis, and visualization.
  • Provide engineering services during construction.
  • Participate in field work, as needed for projects. Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time.
  • Adhere to Brown and Caldwell’s quality assurance/quality control process.

Work schedule and location:

  • Intern will report to the Seattle office and have the flexibility of a hybrid schedule.
  • The required work schedule is at least 3 days in the Seattle office so that the intern can be effectively mentored by staff.
  • Position may involve travel

Desired Skills and Experience:

To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (minimum nine credit hours per semester) seeking a degree in engineering, science, geology, or a related field. You also must be in good standing and carry an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in your core curriculum, as well as a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Candidate should be enrolled in a civil, chemical or environmental engineering program within the United States
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer skills
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts
  • Excellent organization and communication skills with a focused attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability and willingness to learn new things
  • Candidate must have current driver's license and good driving record

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • General knowledge of water systems, water quality, and water treatment
  • In at least the third year of engineering at an accredited university, or higher. Graduate school candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience as an engineering intern
  • Interest in working at an engineering consulting firm following graduation
  • Candidate can physically visit a site and navigate it to observe construction activities

Salary Range: The hourly pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location C:
Hourly $22.00 – $30.20
