Engineer-Licensed Professional/Design (075934)

Purpose/Description

The Licensed Professional Engineer is assigned to the Design Office of the Engineering Division. This position assists the Senior Licensed Professional Engineer/Design in performing engineering duties to lead a group of lower-level engineers to design and review plans, specifications, Pay Item, quantities and Engineer’s Estimate for the construction of road and bridge improvement projects on the Engineering Division Five Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) funded by Federal Aid and Wayne County. Coordinate with other Engineering Division offices so information/reports/data necessary for design work is available. Help to resolve construction issues in the field.

Required Tasks

• Reviewing internal design documents and cost estimates.
• Procure consultants for road & bridge design.
• Mentor and manage design engineers and squad leaders.
• Review consultant design plans QA, consultant invoices and utility documents.
• Planning, scheduling and utility coordination including railroad authorities and MDOT for road and bridge projects and other assigned projects.
• Coordinate staff and design meetings with other County offices.
• Track project budgets and generate summary spreadsheets.
• Participate in utility field meetings for road and bridges projects
• Travel to various locations may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university;
• Professional Engineer license from the State of Michigan.
• Valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.
• 5 Years of experience in Civil Engineering in which 2 years of experience is in the area of Design
