GENERAL SUMMARY 

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy. Assists the pharmacist in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.

 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Patient phone calls: obtain consent for medication refills, to be done monthly. Answer any questions patients may have about refills. Follow up as needed.
  • Chart Review: Review chart for the most up-to-date dosing information and administration instructions. Review plan of care. Inquire about change of plans with physician as needed.
  • Place Prescriptions: send patient prescriptions to QS1 for processing. Verify correct medication, patient, provider and pharmacy location.
  • Order/Receive/Label Medications: prepare medications for provider workflow, prepare documents for IOD logs.
  • Dispense Medications: meet with patients in the office to dispense, ensure they got a copy of receipt, collect signature forms for compliance.
  •  Maintain pharmacy dispensing logs, invoices, daily audits, obtain dispensing physician signatures as needed.
  • Order pharmacy supplies as needed
  • Assist with new medications starts:
  • Contact patients to review expectations
  • Obtain prior authorizations
  • Run test claims
  • Discuss co-pay amounts and set up prescription refills
  • Obtain and enroll for co-pay assistance when needed
  • Patient assistance programs (PAP)
  • Manufacturer programs
  • Other grants/funding – The Assistance Fund (TAF) and PAN enrollment
  • Maintain /Update IOD Spreadsheets
  • IOD refill list
  • New medications starts
  • High co-pay / Financial assistance
  • Re-Task for Refills: update tasks in Urochart and on IOD spreadsheets.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Licensure and certifications as required by State.

  • Utilize Pharmacy operating system.
  • Maintains knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
  • Answer telephone and triage calls to appropriate person.
  • Manage adequate inventory levels.
  • Maintain Clean Room environment per policy and procedure.
  • Strong organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Facilitate communication within the Pharmacy.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Customer-oriented with ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.

  • Complies with all health and safety policies of the organization.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Pharmacy Tech program required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
  • Prior completion of department IV training and competency.
