Job Summary:
The Personal & Career Coach (PCC) is part of the TRIO SSS (Student Support Services) Program team providing support services to ensure the academic success, retention, and graduation of students in the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. The PCC will design, facilitate, evaluate, and monitor key components of the program and coordinates services and activities associated with academic success, persistence, and graduation of TRiO participants
The position is a full-time, 12-month position contingent upon receipt of continued federal funding of the TRiO SSS grant.
The PCC is responsible to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services and performs exclusively duties directly related to the TRIO Student Support Services grant. The candidate should have a genuine passion and understanding of the history and goals of the TRIO SSS program and be familiar with the characteristics of low-income and first-generation college students and students with disabilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate the completion of a comprehensive academic needs analysis and develop an
individual success plan with a clear pathway to graduation.
2. Work directly with students on individual caseload, provide academic advisement,
personal and professional coaching. Facilitate referrals to campus counseling services
and community resources.
3. Evaluate students seeking career direction and assign relevant vocational/career
assessment inventories. Provide career counseling and collaborate with the Office of Career Services to provide workshops and training in major selection, internships, and job search techniques and processes, job shadowing and other work-based learning experiences.
4. Counsel students with respect to financial aid assistance and financial literacy. Coordinate with campus resources- the Financial Aid Office personnel and consultants to provide workshops and education to students on financial aid and financial literacy.
5. Serve as an advocate for program participants with the LU faculty, staff and administration and a well-informed liaison and referral source for other campusprograms and community resources that may be appropriate to program participants.
6. Develop, market, and facilitate personal growth and cultural enrichment programming, on and off campus. Enlists program staff, students, and other constituents to provide workshops/trainings.
7. Contribute to the planning and instruction of the ARCHES/TRiO Bridge program and to the corresponding LUC 101 course. Train and supervise mentors for the ARCHES/TRiO
Bridge program.
8. Maintain respective forms and comprehensive student records, utilizes university
student database management system, program database, produces reports, collects, and interprets data to track participant progress, persistence, and graduation.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Some travel is required. Plans cultural enrichment activities and programs that require PCC to accompany students which may include overnight travel. Professional development may also necessitate travel that may include overnight. Valid driver’s license required.
Performs other job-related duties to ensure the success of the program and its participants as assigned by the Director.|
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, business or closely related field. Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, business, or closely related field preferred.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively, think creatively, and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
- Experience in administering, scoring, and interpreting academic and career assessment inventories is preferred.
- Understanding of the graduate school application, financial aid process and job placement is preferred. Knowledge of financial aid, financial literacy is required. Experience desired in planning programs for career identification and awarenes
- One year experience with a TRiO programs is preferred. Preference is given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming the circumstance like those of the target population.
