The Department of Philosophy at The Ohio State University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor appointment in the History of Philosophy for the 2026-2027 academic year. The appointed individual will conduct philosophical research, teach at all levels of the undergraduate Philosophy curriculum, and participate in the cooperative administration of the department. This appointment is for a one-year term, beginning August 15, 2026, but with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, subject to funds and need for instruction.
Area of Specialization: Ancient Philosophy or Medieval Philosophy
Area of Competence: Open
Performance Objectives
- Conduct philosophical research
- Teach at all levels of the undergraduate Philosophy curriculum
- Participate in the cooperative administration of the department
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: The successful applicant must have a PhD in Philosophy, or a related field, in hand by the start of this appointment on August 15, 2026. Prior teaching experience at the college level is required.
Desired: Candidates should have a record of original peer-reviewed publications, and demonstrated attentiveness to building a diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU’s shared values (see below).
