Job Description:

Summary:

The Office of Career Engagement at the Kogod School of Business at American University provides career development support to undergraduate and graduate business students. Peer consultants (PC) function as the first point of contact for the office's clients including students, employers, prospective students, faculty members, and staff. PCs provide front-line support for the busy student and employer-focused career center. PCs will support the students with resume and cover letter reviews and help educate classmates on the resources available to them through our office. These positions are paid, and hiring preference is given to students who will be available for summer 2024 and/ or fall 2024. 

 

Hourly Rate: $17.50-$18.50/hour. 

Hours per Week: 8-15 (with occasional evenings and weekends if needed) 

Position Start: May 13th (Summer) and August 26th (Fall). 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Junior, Senior, or current Graduate Student. **Student does not have to be Kogod** 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills including being able to create and deliver presentations with confidence to groups of 10+ students. 

  • Applicants should possess a strong interest in developing knowledge of career-related topics. 

  • Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail.  

  • Flexibility, initiative, and ability to multitask and work both independently and as part of a team.  

  • Maturity and an elevated level of professionalism, especially as it relates to building and maintaining relationships with prospective and visiting employers. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products. 

Duties and Responsibilities : 

Front Desk:  

  • Handling the office's front desk phone and general email account, answering, and directing calls and general emails from employers, students, and prospective students, including answering general questions callers and visitors have about the Office of Career Engagement and Kogod. 

  • Providing a high level of customer service to all visitors (students, employers, faculty, and staff).
