The Job:

As a Senior Manager, Lab and Battery Safety, you’ll be part of our Environmental Health and Safety team working as an onsite employee. You’ll get to: 

  • Be a corporate subject matter expert for Lab and Battery Safety
  • Develop a written Lab and Battery Safety Program to include protocols and methods related to lab and battery safety, fire protection, and emergency response that can be deployed globally.
  • Create criteria for battery storage requirements related to fire protection and building performance. Evaluate facilities to the criteria.
  • Develop audit criteria and checklists for self-assessments in the labs and development areas.
  • Responsible for drafting and leading the implementation of programs to protect employee health utilizing existing policy deployment framework, for all assigned EHS programs.
  • Monitors and measures the effectiveness of lab and battery safety programs, policies, and procedures, including oversight of assessments, improvement plans, tracking & status reporting, including trends and makes recommendation of corrective actions. 
  • Provide direct support including compliance reviews, guidance on training in the storage, management, and transportation of large format batteries while upskilling site level staff. 
  • Develop and conduct risk assessments and reviews for new battery products and test methods at various locations
  • Serve as a SME for strategic projects and initiatives such as electrification including assessments and project review to drive timely execution
  • Identify and communicate of applicable Health & Safety Best Management Practices

 
 

The Person:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Safety Management, Fire Safety/Science, or Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial) or similar
  • 5+ years Lab Safety experience (e.g., research, design, and development environment)
  • Experience working with Lithium-Ion battery safety, NPFA 70E Electrical Safety, and battery storage systems
  • Strong project management skills required, with proven ability to communicate effectively, collaborate, influence and lead across multiple function to drive execution and achieve desired results.  
  • Ability to manage various aspects of companywide initiatives, including schedule and cost tracking.
  • Strong leadership voice with demonstrated ability to communication effectively at all levels of an organization, including presentations to Sr. leadership
  • This position reports directly to the Director, Health & Safety – CoE, in a hybrid model, flexibility is required to respond to emergencies, ability to travel at least 30% domestic and international.
