About the role
The Senior Assistant Actuary is responsible for overseeing and managing the delivery of our monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables related to the Commercial Insurance Division’s financial planning life cycle. The role is based in our Philadelphia, PA or Whitehouse Station, NJ offices and reports to the Data, Systems, & Transformation Lead for CI Actuarial. There is flexibility to fill this position at a lower job grade for a qualified candidate with less than 5 years of experience.
Duties And Responsibilities
Work closely with CI Actuarial Leadership to:
- Take ownership of and complete projects related to the execution and delivery of all current state planning life cycle processes by agreed upon deadlines.
- Develop financial plans for the division. Track progress against planned loss ratios and provide detailed analyses of forecasted results and any variances from plan.
- Forecast/Analyze current accident year loss ratios, identify emerging claims trends, and produce results monthly.
- Support the modernization of key life cycle processes and further integrate planning life cycle with the profitability-analysis-based processes.
- Report and communicate findings while delivering work products in a timely fashion.
- Develop dashboards and analytical tools to support life cycle tasks.
- Work with the IT/Data teams to support modernization framework and to build more efficient and robust data platforms.
- Special projects and other ad-hoc requests.
Qualifications
- BS Degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in actuarial pricing, reserving, or related field.
- Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Python or R.
- Familiarity with SQL.
- Keenness for data (collection, manipulation, report design, sensibility checks, and attention to detail)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively communicate ideas.
- ACAS/FCAS preferred.
