Principal Field Engineer

The Field Engineering Team is looking to hire two Principal Field Engineer's.

The Principal Field Engineer will help lead Field Engineering in the execution of projects and support the construction department during construction activities of infrastructure projects at the Nevada National Security Site. This may include construction projects, emerging project issues, providing support for project discovery, project scope development, support for identifying functional requirements for projects and systems.  Perform the duties as the Project Field Engineer (PFE) on projects, and be responsible for coordinating efforts, and giving guidance to less experienced field engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in walk-downs, generate sketches, help develop conceptual designs, evaluate existing systems, and generate and/or review functional requirement documents.
• Ensure processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS) policies and procedures.
• Ensure designs are properly reviewed, purchased, executed, installed, tested, and documented in accordance with the latest issued construction documents.
• Review engineering documents for constructability during various design reviews of 30%, 60% 90% and Issued For Construction (IFC) designs.
• Verify and report on construction installation quantities.
• Interface with Project Engineering to facilitate responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Requests (FCRs), and needed design changes.
• Develop red-line drawings for incorporation into As-Built drawings.
• Prepare, review and approve material requisitions.
• Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
• May serve as internal subject matter expert with given engineering discipline.
• May serve as Project Field Engineer PFE for Line-Item projects. 
• Mentor Field Engineering staff and other technical personnel in methods, processes, and best practices. Participate in project development by helping to define customer needs, developing proposals and planning projects that will produce effective outcomes.
• Serve as an expert advisor to other project personnel, technical staff and management on technical issues. Ability to interpret codes and standards related to engineering discipline. 
• Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.
• Leverage past knowledge to develop processes that drive efficiency and accountability. 
• Perform other duties assigned by Management.

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
  • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)
  • Or Professional Engineer license
• Plus at least 9 years’ relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized.
