Job Overview

This individual will report to the Multidisciplinary Career Education Unit Head and will support efforts that contribute to student success and increasing student career/professional readiness. The Multidisciplinary Career Education Unit is comprised of faculty who teach FYE and career education courses and staff in the Bearcat Promise Career studio within the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies (CCPS). The Multidisciplinary Career Education Unit supports undergraduate and graduate students from 9 colleges but primarily serves undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S).

The A&S Co-op Program is available for students in select majors to engage in compensated, career-oriented experiences and reflect upon and integrate their experience within their undergraduate degree. Engaging in several meaningful career-related experiences prior to graduation provides students with an opportunity to develop transferable skills and provides them with a competitive edge as they enter the workforce or prepare for continued education. Built with maximum flexibility, the optional co-op subplan allows students to combine academic coursework with full or part time paid work experience (co-op).

UC is known nationally for experiential learning, and all UC students should be incentivized and encouraged to engage in co-op. Co-op 2.0 builds on UC’s historic co-op experience in DAAP, Engineering, and IT to include on-campus, part-time, and service-learning co-op experiences. Now, all undergraduate and graduate UC students can receive supervised, major-related, compensated work experiences including those who must maintain part-time jobs, those who take courses while working to stay on track academically, and those who have had little to no professional preparation or work experience prior to starting at UC. An important component of the signature UC A&S Co-op Program experience includes reflection to gain a deep understanding of transferable skills and insight into interests, goals and values related to professional pursuits and the importance of an A&S degree.

Essential Functions

Oversee A&S Co-op Program (60%)
⦁    Assume management responsibility for a wide range of projects/tasks associated of which     decisions and quality of execution have significant impact and influence on the program.
⦁    Create long- and short-term action plans that advance the college's priorities around the specific programs.
⦁    Provide oversight, direction, and implementation of the A&S Co-op Program; manage nuances between curricular requirements for liberal arts including natural science, humanities, and social sciences
⦁    Advise declared students in the A&S Co-op Program on program requirements, processes and procedures (individually and/or in group settings)
⦁    Develop tracking system and process for students seeking co-op employment (applications, job placement and enrollment in co-op courses)
⦁    Develop Handshake collections based on job roles and/or student interest in collaboration with centralized university efforts
⦁    Curate lists of co-op opportunities for A&S Co-op Program students and share opportunities with students on a weekly basis
⦁    Manage graduate certification process for students completing graduate co-op subplan
⦁    Manage pre/post confidence surveys in PD courses; summarize data for A&S partners and Partnership Development team regarding student confidence and co-op interest
