JOB SUMMARY
The ER Pediatric Transporter is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of pediatric patients within the emergency department and to other areas of the hospital. This role involves assisting with the preparation and movement of patients for medical procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety during transport, and maintaining transport equipment.

Schedule: 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, 3 shifts per week, .75 fte

Unit details: 42 Bed Emergency Department is a Certified Level 3 Trauma Center—approximately 100 visits per day. We provide 24-hour care for adult and pediatric patients who are being treated for all levels of injury and illness, from beginning to end of life.  Our patients are unique because they are a diverse population, with a multitude of concerns that require both emergent and non-emergent care in a complete and timely manner.

What you'll do:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely transfer pediatric patients between departments, rooms, and vehicles within the healthcare facility.

  • Assist with the preparation and movement of patients for medical procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and organized transport vehicle or equipment.

  • Assist patients in and out of transport vehicles.

  • Lift patients on and off their beds and move them to treatment areas and operating rooms.

  • Retrieve medical records, lab results, supplies, and medications as needed.

  • Perform routine rounding on patient and family care needs and offer comfort items.

  • Assist with stocking the unit with patient care items, i.e. blankets, gowns and nourishment items.

  • Ensure all transport equipment is in a state of readiness and properly maintained.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and patient care practices.

  • Ability to lift and move patients safely.

  • Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • CPR certification preferred.

  • Previous ER experience or acute care experience preferred

  • Professionalism

  • Exceptional reliability

  • Significant emotional intelligence for the patient population

  • Flexible availability for scheduling

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Transports patients to various areas of the Medical Center by stretcher, wheelchair or bed.
• Delivers and retrieves transportation equipment as requested.
• Utilizes resources to ensure a safe and efficient patient throughput.
• Provides assistance in medical emergencies.
• Ensures equipment is ready when needed.
