Director, K-12 Literacy and the Humanities

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plan, execute, and direct all aspects of the District’s K-12 Literacy Framework, and Social Studies, and Fine Arts programs, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, content integration, and professional development to support all schools; manages district level literacy projects and collaborates closely with other district leadership to advance achievement for all MPS students.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Core Academics, directs the District’s K-12 Literacy Framework and K-12 Social Studies and Fine Arts programs.

• Develops, coordinates and delivers professional development and related services to content teachers, principals, and other school and district staff.

• Works in close collaboration with the Director of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to provide ongoing support of the MTSS model with all stakeholders.

• Manages staff, develops priorities, and assigns tasks and projects; develops staff skills, evaluates performance, and trains staff on all Literacy, Social Studies, and Fine Arts programs, policies and strategies; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve schedules, priorities, workload, critical concerns and technical issues; assures that appropriate services are provided, and goals are defined and achieved.

• Manages budgets and expenditures according to district policies and state laws. 

• Builds capacity with school leadership teams and teachers across content areas, departments, and divisions to ensure evidence-based, culturally responsive instructional practices are promoting high levels of learning and outcomes among all student groups and to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning at the site.

• Works closely with the Director of Preschool to ensure the implementation plan of the Birth to Adult Literacy Framework, in addition to identifying progress monitoring tools to measure the depth and quality of the implementation.
