Operations Manager – Research
This newly created position will help to advance research projects towards Pioneering Medicines’ goals of developing transformational therapies. The Operations Manager – Research will be a critical team member within research, given our unique R&D model in Pioneering Medicines, and will work with our biology, translational science, and DMPK/toxicology leaders, with project teams, and with external CROs to drive the research portfolio forward on a daily basis. This team member will work closely with the Pioneering Medicines CSO on communications and portfolio planning within the Research group. This position, like other operations managers, will report into PM’s COO in order to facilitate good communication and outstanding teamwork across PM and to create a larger number of career development opportunities over time.
Primary responsibilities include managing research projects with the accountable scientific leader; tracking timelines, deliverables, and milestones; developing and managing financial budgets; managing vendor contracts; providing project status updates to cross-functional teams proactively anticipating, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure that project timelines are met; coordinating the communication across the Research team, with the CSO, and with governance structures; and supporting and executing other operational tasks as needed. This is an in person role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide daily operational support to the Research (biology, translational, and DMPK/toxicology) teams to track project timelines
- Managing project plans and execution for internal research
- Responsible for operational management of research vendors in collaboration with internal business partners and across PM functions including but not limited to contract development/management, procure-to-pay activities (proposals, PO generation, budget tracking/invoice reconciliation, etc.)
- Coordinate with key stakeholders (both internal and external) to organize meetings, prepare agendas, minutes, manage documentations, and follow up on action items
- Manage project information, documentation, and team communications to ensure timely and accurate communication of project status
- Partner with CSO and Research functional leads and finance team to develop and track program and departmental budgets
Qualifications:
- BA/BS or MS degree in a scientific field, advanced degree preferred
- 4+ years of experience in R&D and/or R&D project management in an industry setting
- Exposure to project/program management within a CRO, pharma, or biotech company
- Understanding of the drug discovery process, particularly from Target ID to IND
- Self-motivated individual with ability to work at moderate degree of independence with some direction
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
