About the role
Description
The Electrical/Mechanical Designer will be responsible for creating technical drawings and models as well as producing detailed 2D and 3D models, schematics, and wiring diagrams for the vessel's mechanical and electrical systems. This individual will also use CAD software such as AutoCAD or specialized shipbuilding tools like ShipConstructor.
Other responsibilities include:
- Design vessel systems: Develop, integrate, review and/or design shipboard system drawings, including:
- Mechanical: Piping (e.g. fuel, bilge, ballast, cooling water, etc.), HVAC, and hydraulic systems.
- Electrical: Power generation, power distribution, control systems, wireways and transits.
- Electronic: Navigation, communication, and monitoring systems.
- Coordinate with engineering teams: Work closely with other disciplines to ensure seamless integration and resolve spatial and technical conflicts.
- Production support: Create production drawings and work packages that detail how the vessel's components will be manufactured and assembled.
- Ensure regulatory compliance: Guarantee all designs adhere to all applicable Regulatory requirements (primarily ABS, and United States Coast Guard).
- Manage documentation: Create Bills of Materials (BOMs), wire lists, and other technical documentation for new construction projects. Receive, organize, and distribute (as needed) vendor furnished information (VFI).
Education:
An associate's or bachelor's degree in marine, mechanical, or electrical engineering is highly desired but can be substituted with proven experience.
Software:
- Full proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, AutoCAD and Navisworks is required.
- Skills in other software packages such as Rhino, Creo, ShipConstructor, etc. is a plus.
