- Reports directly to the Administrator for Perioperative Services.
- Demonstrates transformational leadership, and the ability to build and maintain a positive culture throughout the department.
- Provides daily leadership and management of the UVA Main Operating Rooms (“OR”), in collaboration with the Periop leadership teams and Medical Director of the OR, as well as the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Administrator for Perioperative Services.
- Ensures the highest quality clinical care and patient experience is provided to patients and their families.
- Responsible for ensuring the operating room and environs are clean and that equipment is safe and in good working order; partners closely with supporting departments.
- Partners with the appropriate leaders and staff to run an efficient O.R. Schedule. Provides effective management of the Main O.R. charge nurses in collaboration with Anesthesiology department leadership.
- Demonstrates effective communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and all UVA Health stakeholders.
- Develops and manages partnerships with clinicians, physicians, vendors, sterile processing, supply chain and administrative support to achieve common goals.
- Develops and supports all team members. Provides oversight for areas of responsibility and guidance for the leaders of the work units at all levels.
- Analyzes departmental strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints. Identifies measurable objectives and monitors progress toward the achievement of specified goals in keeping with operational standards. Using lean methodology, develops programs which address continuous quality improvement, system enhancement, streamlined processes and overall performance.
- Promotes integration of multidisciplinary work groups across Perioperative Services and throughout the organization.
- Works closely with the Director of Business Operations to connect with current state business process and needs.
- Manages recruitment, performance, and retention activities for the unit and participates in Periop-wide recruitment/retention initiatives.
- Manages the department’s labor resources within budget; ensures direct reports are actively involved in tracking and managing their performance vs. budget and partners with the Periop leadership team and Administrator in developing annual budgets.
- Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements specific to the site, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
- Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
- Serves on various committees within Periop and across UVA Health as appropriate.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program, required, Master’s degree in related field within 4 years of hire.
Experience: 5 years varied and progressive perioperative services experience or perioperative nursing management experience with increasing level of administrative responsibility and authority
Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. Certified Nurse Operating Rooms (CNOR) certification preferred. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification required within 60 days of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling (distance: 1 – 2 miles/day), climbing (ladder, steps) and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs.
