About the role

The Red Hat AI Engineering RAG team is looking for a curious and highly motivated Intern in AI/Data Science to join our team in Dublin. We believe that passion and a desire to learn are among the most important qualifications, and this role is designed for someone eager to grow their skills in a supportive, cutting-edge environment. You will be an active participant in our work with open source projects and the Red Hat AI (RHAI) platform, exploring the exciting field of Retrieval-Augmented Generation(RAG). This internship is an opportunity to turn your theoretical knowledge into practical skills, ask questions, and contribute your unique perspective to real-world challenges in generative AI. If you are driven by curiosity and excited by the prospect of learning from industry experts, we encourage you to apply.

At Red Hat, you’ll work in an environment that welcomes diverse perspectives, values great ideas, and empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully. Freedom and courage are two of our core values — which means you’ll have the space to take risks, explore the unknown, and grow your strengths. But being a Red Hatter is not just about bravery; it’s also about commitment and follow-through.

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid, full-time internship based at the respective RH offices (Cork, Waterford, Dublin), with flexible working hours. The expected start date is June 2026.

What you will do:

  • Perform engineering tasks under the direction of an experienced engineer

  • Become an active member of an agile development team, both scrum and kanban

  • Learn to collaborate and innovate with other engineers in your team

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and help deliver creative solutions

  • Work both on your own, remotely, and collaboratively with others in your team

  • Help mentor a transition year student, transferring your learned skills to the younger students

  • Contribute to the open-source community

  • Present a topic, not always technical, to the Cloud Services team at one or more of our Lunch & Learn events

  • Proactively utilize AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) for code generation, auto-completion, and intelligent suggestions to accelerate development cycles and enhance code quality.

What you will bring:

  • You must be enrolled in an accredited university program in the Republic of Ireland during the full duration of the internship and must be able to join us full time from June till September 2026

  • Working knowledge of written and spoken English

  • Growth mindset; willingness to learn and challenge yourself

  • Ability to give and receive feedback in a meaningful manner

  • Passion for problem-solving and debugging technical issues

  • Some working knowledge/understanding of Git usage and workflows (Git workshops are provided for all interns when they join).

  • A good understanding of scripting and programming with languages such Python, Golang

  • A basic understanding or knowledge of Linux operating systems

  • Some understanding of configuration management, automation tools, and containerisation technologies.

  • Active online presence (e.g. GitHub) with interest in community development is a plus.

Due to the limited number of internship opportunities and the high volume of applications, we may not be able to speak with every candidate. To maximize your chances of moving forward in the process, please ensure your CV clearly outlines your education, relevant projects (link to your Github account), and extracurricular activities.

Please apply for a maximum of three internship roles that best match your interests and skills.
