JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction, provide a safe, clean and efficient aquatic environment for employees and patrons. Prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatics incidents/injuries.
LIFEGUARD JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Current American Red Cross, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid Certifications.
Be 15 years of age.
Previous lifeguard experience preferred, but not required.
Be mentally and physically fit.
Be mature, responsible, dependable and professional.
Have good communication skills.
Be able to report to work promptly and regularly.
Have positive recommendations from previous supervisors and employers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for customer safety and uniformly enforcing pool safety rules.
Be familiar with each and every pool rule and why is should be enforced.
Ensure that customers are swimming in water that they are capable of swimming in. If a customer appears to be struggling in deep water, ask them to demonstrate their swimming abilities to you. If their skills are not satisfactory, ask the customer to remain in shallow water.
Discipline customers as needed. Any discipline deemed necessary beyond sitting out of the water for a short period of time must be brought to the attention of the manager or assistant manager on duty.
Assist with facility maintenance. Each employee is required to clean bathrooms, pick up litter, clean trash cans, skim the pool or perform any other maintenance duty requested by the pool manager or assistant manager. "Off stand" guards will inspect bathrooms and pick up litter after each rotation. Lifeguards will also participate in weekly cleaning sessions to assist with vacuuming and cleaning the pool.
Perform hourly chemical checks as directed by management.
Assist in the pool office as needed to answer phones or assist customers
Respond quickly to all emergency situations while on or off stand. Know the emergency response plan and be able to respond accordingly. Be familiar and able to perform rescue techniques as set forth by the American Red Cross
File all records in a timely manner. Incident reports and any other paper work should be turned into the office within 24 hours.
Assist with opening and closing procedures.
Be available to work after-hour pool rentals.
Report to work with all equipment including whistle, CRP mask, and lifeguard fanny pack, towel, sunglasses, sun block, and hat and staff shirt.
Offer the best in customer service.
14. Assist the Management with preparing daily revenue for deposit.
Prepare the cash register for opening by ensuring proper change fund is in the drawer.
Greet the public in a cheerful and friendly manner.
Must be able to learn the CLASS point of sale system and to complete various written reports concerning participation, revenue generation, etc.
Take admission fees from customers and give appropriate change.
Responsible for checking receipts of those patrons who request to leave and return later.
Handle customer phone calls and answer questions. Pool attendants should make sure that the aquatic brochure is always available since many questions can be answered by referring to the magazine.
Assist customers with concession needs.
Reconcile the cash register and revenue at the end of the day. Prepare accurate revenue and participation reports for the Pool Manager.
Maintain the pool office. Keep supplies and equipment neat and orderly.

LIFEGUARD SERVICE STANDARDS
- Ensure maximum safety of all patrons in the aquatics facility. Take preventative measures to decrease the probability that aquatics incidents will occur.
- Always be consistent, fair, and courteous when enforcing the General Rules and Regulations outlined in this manual. If necessary, provide a justification for the rule. If the patron has additional questions or becomes unsatisfied, call upon Management to assist you. Remember YOUR primary responsibility is to ensure swimmer safety.
- Assist Management in maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly facility. Periodically check the aquatics facility for unsanitary and unsafe conditions. Check the aquatics equipment to ensure its safety. If repairs are needed or a potentially hazardous condition arises, inform Management immediately.
- Perform ALL of the duties assigned to the position of Lifeguard. Perform the duties exactly as they are outlined in this manual. In addition, be prepared to accept and perform any additional duties assigned by Management.
