SUMMARY:
South University School of Pharmacy is seeking a full-time PGY1 Pharmacy Resident. This position is a fixed-term, full-time employment appointment designed to meet the requirements of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. The resident functions as both a learner and a pharmacist-in-training while contributing to patient care, teaching, service, and scholarly activities under the supervision of licensed preceptors. The primary purpose of this position is to provide structured postgraduate training that builds upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education to develop clinical competence, professional leadership, and practice independence in community-based and ambulatory care settings.

SCHEDULE AND EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
This is a full-time, temporary (12-month) exempt position. The resident is expected to devote a minimum of 40 hours per week to residency activities, with additional time as required to meet learning objectives. Work hours may include weekdays and occasional evenings or weekends based on rotation requirements.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
Clinical Practice and Patient Care
◦ Provide direct patient care services under the supervision of licensed pharmacist preceptors across required and elective learning experiences.
◦ Participate in medication management, disease state management, health screenings, and patient education activities.
◦ Collaborate with interprofessional healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes in community and ambulatory care settings.
Learning Experiences and Professional Development
◦ Successfully complete all required and elective residency rotations and longitudinal learning experiences as outlined in the residency program manual.
◦ Actively engage in self-directed learning, goal setting, and regular evaluation processes in accordance with ASHP standards.
◦ Participate in residency conferences, seminars, and professional development activities.
Teaching and Academic Activities
◦ Assist with pharmacy student education through precepting, mentoring, facilitation of learning activities, and classroom support, as assigned.
◦ Participate in teaching certificate or academic development activities if offered through the program.
Research and Scholarship
◦ Design, conduct, and complete a residency research project that meets program and ASHP requirements.
◦ Present research findings at local, regional, or national professional meetings and prepare a manuscript suitable for publication.
Service and Program Support
◦ Participate in residency program committees, quality improvement initiatives, and service activities as assigned.
◦ Represent the residency program and South University School of Pharmacy in professional and community settings.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Required:
◦ Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an ACPE accredited institution or school of pharmacy.
◦ Eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Georgia, with active licensure obtained within a timeframe specified by the residency program.
◦ Successful match through the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
◦ Ability to meet all employment, credentialing, and background check requirements of South University and JC Lewis Primary Health Care Center.

• Preferred:
◦ Prior community pharmacy, ambulatory care, or primary care experience.
◦ Demonstrated interest in academia, teaching, research, or community health initiatives.
