Both roles are limited term positions. The primary responsibilities for the job are to perform a variety of complex technical civil engineering construction inspections on City-funded transportation and pavement related projects. Ensure construction materials and workmanship follow Plans, Specifications, and City Standards; provide technical support to the pavement management program including inspection of franchise utility permits, review and inspection of developer and capital projects; and provide assistance to higher level engineering staff. This position may be flexibly staffed and hired as a Construction Inspector or Senior Construction Inspector, depending on the qualifications of the applicant. If filled at the Construction Inspector level, the incumbent will be adjusted to the Senior Construction Inspector classification the first of the pay period following the date all qualifications are met.
This is a full-time, limited-term, non-exempt union position. This position is covered under the provisions of an agreement between the City and the OPEIU union. The schedule for this position is M-F, 7:30am to 4:30pm.
This limited term position is funded until December 31, 2028.

Job Details
Essential Functions:
- Review, issue, and inspect franchise utility permits. Review and inspect city owned utility cuts in the street as well as recording progress on as-built inspections and walk throughs to ensure compliance with City restoration requirements and conformance to plans and specifications.
- Act as lead inspector and the City’s field representative on City-funded capital construction projects and developer-funded projects as assigned, primarily pavement management related projects. Monitor work for acceptability and conformance to plans and specifications.
- Act as the City’s lead representative to the project’s neighbors and members of the general public, answering questions and addressing concerns as well as complaints.
- Work with the construction project engineer in ensuring that projects are built on time, within budget where applicable, and in conformance to plans and specifications.

- Review development and capital projects and provide comments on pavement related impacts. Review and monitor traffic control plans for construction projects.
- Coordinate public works projects with applicable city, state and federal officials and other relevant agencies and parties.
- Drive a city vehicle in a representative safe and appropriate manner in order to travel between various worksites.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience and Education
Construction Inspector:
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering or construction experience, and construction inspection, or general field-based operations. Experience in other related fields may be considered.
- Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college with major course work in engineering or a related field.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Senior Construction Inspector:
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering or construction experience including construction and construction inspection.
- Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college with major course work in engineering or a related field.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Computer Skills
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office/365 products.
- Familiarity with computer aided drafting and asset management is preferred, but not a requirement.
