The Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, innovators, and scientists who lead with science to make athletes* measurably better. We deliver validated insights and innovative capabilities to drive the future of Nike products and services. The Field Services team in the NSRL creates and applies knowledge of human movement to help everyday athletes out in the world move better through guidance services.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a Principal, Athlete Service Design, in the NSRL Field Services team. The Principal will define, test, and refine the consumer experience of science-based services that help athletes* of all levels improve performance and protection as they move. This person will partner with the science (biomechanics, physiology), data science, operations, and technology experts to bring meaningful, scalable experiences to life. The role is suited for a consumer-obsessed, entrepreneurial leader who can thrive in early-stage exploration and build something from scratch, while also navigating a large, matrixed organization as we drive toward scale!
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
If this is you, you’ll lead work to refine and scale proven service offerings in partnership with teams across Nike, while also exploring and piloting new concepts. A typical day/week involves:
- Defining consumer journeys in partnership with our tech, operations, and science teams.
- Guiding UX/UI design for both digital and in-person experiences.
- Creating service prototypes.
- Leading consumer research: design and implement measurable tests a at meeting or exceeding consumer and business critical metrics.
- Iterating on the consumer journey, design and UX/UI of service offerings based on athlete feedback.
- Designing and facilitating service design workshops.
- Identifying new service opportunities and helping to guide the strategic roadmap.
- Landscaping competitive and opportunity spaces.
- Working with teams across the business to implement the services in Nike and partner channels.
- Leading day-to-day relationships with partners, technical teams and external development partners.
- Tracking, reporting, and owning critical metrics and budget.
- Storytelling and developing / delivering persuasive presentations.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
This person will report to the Director of Field Services. Within the NSRL, partnering closely with science, data science, operations, and technology colleagues. You will learn from and with the team that serves our contracted Nike athletes to inform what we could do for the everyday athlete*. Within Innovation, you'll have strong ties to the product and digital innovation teams. In the larger, matrixed Nike organization you’ll connect with the teams focused on specific sports, as well as the product, retail and digital teams, among others.
WHAT YOU BRING
- You have been a leader of a company and/or service product grounded in sport science. You are comfortable working at the intersection of science / technology and consumer product / service development.
- 10 + years relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated the ability to lead consumer research and conduct rapid prototype tests, translating the resulting insights into a new or improved consumer service experience.
- Strong experience in service environments working with everyday athletes in training, operations and/or management roles.
- Experience leading or guiding UX/UI design for both digital and in-person consumer experiences.
- Experience in large companies and know how to navigate the intersection between entrepreneurship and a matrixed organization. Experience building and scaling entrepreneurial projects and getting stakeholder agreement, including from very senior executives or investors.
- Led strategy development for one or more new service ventures or products.
- Managed interdisciplinary teams to deliver projects and/or products on aggressive timelines.
- Well-versed in setting / tracking KPIs, managing a budget, and communicating progress updates.
- Have a passion for movement and helping all types and levels of athletes move better.
- Strong background in both kinesiology / exercise science and user experience design.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
