Agency Description

The Health and Human Services Cabinet (HHS) is comprised of the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbilities (DBHIDS), Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO), Office of Homeless Services, and Department of Public Health (PDPH).  In addition, HHS manages the Mayor’s Commission on Services to the Aging (MCOA), and an Audit Unit. The mission of the Cabinet is to ensure the health and wellbeing, safety, and appropriate supports for all Philadelphians, particularly the most vulnerable children and adults.

The Mayor’s Commission on Services to the Aging (MCOA) works to improve the quality of life for older adults and  manages efforts to create a comprehensive approach for the City to address the needs of Philadelphians as they age. Policy and program approaches have caused the City to be designated as an “age-friendly livable community for all” by the American Association of Retired People. 

Job Description

In coordination with and reporting to the Program Director, and to create and inform successful work opportunities, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the assessment of the skills and experiences of participants; developing age-friendly employment opportunities for program participants; outreach to communities to promote the program to those age 55+ and employment hosts; and monitoring the program for opportunities for improvement for both the senior and the host.

Essential Functions

• Outreach for and promotion of MCOA programs
• Identify work opportunities that match the  skills, work experience and interests of participants.
• Complete program assessments, IEPs and recertification's and enroll eligible participants.
• Assist program participants with adhering to the mandates of the program and manage additional activities that support the employability of participants.
• Monitor participants’ progress towards obtaining unsubsidized employment.
• Input into the program tracking database.

• Knowledge of the aging population in Philadelphia
• Demonstrated ability to engage culturally diverse communities
• Ability to use tools to guide the employment/training and internship needs of participants.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands.
• Superior interpersonal skills that promote problem solving while interacting with others
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Bi-lingual speaking and writing language proficiency in English and Spanish, preferred
• Excellent skills in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other Office Suite software or eagerness and the ability to learn these applications or any others necessary for the position
• Work independently as well as a team member

Work-Life

Working hours are generally 37.5 hours per week. Our team is currently hybrid with both virtual and in-office days, however the position can opt to come in the office each day if desired

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field, preferred
• Incumbent must have three (2) years or more of experience in the human services or a related field or a combination of education and experience
• Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin
