About the role

JOB SUMMARY

The Part-Time Hardware Test Engineer II will be responsible for the design, construction, deployment and support of automated and manual production test and calibration fixtures, procedures, and documentation. This role is considered part-time, and the incumbent will work 16 hours per week. The Hardware Test Engineer II will be based in our Marlborough, MA office reporting to the Senior Test Engineering Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design and construction of test systems, fixtures and processes
    • Interact with Design Engineering to gain a complete understanding of product requirements and operation.
    • Conceptualize, design and construct test equipment and/or fixtures toward meeting test/calibration objectives.
    • Develop automated processes to perform test/calibration, store results and data and produce datasheets and certificates.
  • Production support
    • Assure the suitability of equipment for safe operation considering the personnel and environment.
    • Training of production personnel both at Doble and suppliers to operate test equipment and diagnose product failures.
    • Assistance in diagnosing DUT failures as needed directly or remotely.
  • Maintenance and repair
    • See to the timely repair and/or replacement of wearable items as needed or in accordance with defined guidelines.
    • Maintain instrumentation calibration status and electronic records thereof.
    • Participate in maintaining a healthy inventory level of parts and materials used for typical projects and maintenance.
  • Continuous improvement
    • Adapt test equipment and processes in response to product changes and/or identification of coverage deficiencies.
    • Identify product design and manufacturing flow issues and/or recommend changes and improvements.
    • Adhere to company revision and Doc control policies as well as applicable Agency standards.
  • Purchasing decisions such as tool, material and parts selection further approved by manager.
  • Test methodology including the impact on schedule, personnel safety as well as process and product compliance.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering                             
  • 10+ years’ experience plus other formal technical training (ie vocational school) may be considered in lieu of degree

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years’ experience designing and constructing custom electronic and electrical circuits, wire harnesses and assemblies plus 3+ years developing test methods and applications but a minimum of ten years combined.
  • Familiarity and experience with all nature of both analog and digital electronic test instrumentation.
  • Experience producing both graphical and text-based documentation such as schematics and test instructions.
  • Familiarity and experience with power and hand tools and construction materials and hardware.
  • Very good soldering and electromechanical assembly skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (Not Required):

  • Familiar with switching power supplies.
  • Familiarity and experience with very high voltage levels (>10KV).
  • Basic Stamp and/or PIC programming experience.
  • Experience with SPC (Statistical Process Control)
  • Visual Basic and/or LabView programming experience.
  • Experience within the electrical power generation/distribution industry.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • In depth familiarity with analog and digital circuitry and the underlying principles and mathematics.
  • A general understanding of programming flow, structure and techniques.
  • Very familiar with MS Office with in-depth Excel skills and experience.
  • Able to interpret and produce all nature of technical documentation.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers and customers.
