Summary of Job Duties:

The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing financial operations and budgets for the Vice Provost for Research. This role requires strategic financial management and the ability to collaborate with the various units to meet the strategic goals of the University. The Assistant Director of Finance will ensure compliance with state and federal laws, as well as institutional policies, while providing guidance, training, and counsel to units regarding finance, human resources, and administration operations. This position involves coordinating with administrative areas and working collaboratively across department lines to solve problems and develop innovative solutions. Effective communication and organizational skills and an understanding of higher education finance are vital to succeed in this role. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

• A bachelor’s degree (any field);
• At least three (3) years of experience in higher education or a related work environment;
• Microsoft Office Suite; Banner Finance; Workday Finance, Workday Human Capital Management;
• General knowledge of accounting software.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or a master’s degree in a related field;
• Professional/Technical writing experience is a plus;
• Experience with Google products including Drive, Sheets, and Docs. 
• Adobe Acrobat Pro;
• Experience with Argos.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Vice Provost for Research and research departments with the development and execution of strategic financial planning;
• Provide budgetary oversight and management of the Office of Innovation and Commercialization, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Center for Integrative Nanotechnology Sciences, the Arkansas Space Grant; Consortium, the Office of Research Compliance and Export Control, including UA accounts, state-appropriated funds, fee-generated and revenue funds, grants, and various other designated and auxiliary accounts;
• Liaise with the Office of Finance and Administration
