  • Leads or supports the design, implementation and maintenance of BIU query tools, reports, and analyses

  • Applies knowledge of SQL to assemble unstructured, semi-structured, and structured data into consistent datasets with multiple levels of granularities (e.g. demographics, products, transactions)
  • Applies statistical techniques to test, verify, and refine hypotheses; summarizes findings; and presents actionable business recommendations
  • Presents findings and recommendations in a simple, clear way to drive action
  • Provides support for data analysis and visualization, ensuring adherence with data governance standards
  • Works with internal schema owners and external vendors to discover and evaluate data sources
  • Provides advice and guidance to FIU and external stakeholders on implementation of solutions
  • Supports the execution of BIU strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Executes work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service
  • Produces clear, concise documentation for query tools, reports, and analyses
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed

Proficiencies

  • Must be able to prepare and analyze large datasets using SQL; proficiency with Python, R, and/or SAS preferred
  • Must be able to make data driven decisions
  • Must have extensive knowledge of AML and fraud typologies
  • Must be a critical thinker and creative solver of complex problems
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be independent and capable of effectively managing competing priorities

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with SQL required; proficiency with Python, R, and/or SAS preferred
  • Technical proficiency gained through a combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study and at least four years of relevant experience in AML, Fraud Prevention, Law Enforcement, or related businesses

The Senior AML Data Analytics Specialist is responsible for conducting exploratory analyses and for designing targeted AML query tools. The Specialist will aggregate and evaluate data and design meaningful features with the intent of revealing suspicious or otherwise remarkable activity. The Specialist will provide recommendations to improve existing AML and Terrorist Financing (TF) monitoring methods and propose new methods based on a careful analysis of internal data, combined with their knowledge of regulatory requirements, suspicious activity typologies, and AML red flags. The Specialist will also lead ad hoc data mining efforts to support Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) investigations; support Business Intelligence Unit (BIU) reporting initiatives; and present analyses and recommendations through the appropriate governance channels. The role works closely with the BIU Senior Manager and AML Data Analytics Manager to support monthly BIU alert ingestion, and with other stakeholders throughout the U.S. AML Office and Enterprise AML Office to support BIU analytical development.

$67,200.00 - $124,800.00

Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
