Registered Nurse Operating Room Charge

Join our team as an Operating Room Charge Nurse!
Our team gets to work with a variety of cases allowing you to gain a wide range of skills within the Operating Room. Regions Hospital has 21 operating rooms which includes a hybrid OR and two (2) daVinci Xi robots. We are a busy OR with over 14,000 surgical procedures performed annually.
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Supervisor, this position is accountable for the following:
- Matching competent caregivers with a patient assignment
- Flexing staffing to meet the volume and acuity needs of the unit
- Being the point of contact for physician and family interactions
- Managing the flow of patient activity on the unit and creating and sustaining a healing environment consistent with BCBE and Healthy Workplace standards.
The Charge Nurse exercises independent judgment in the daily performance of their duties when giving work direction. She/he may address staff performance issues by providing real time coaching, counseling, mentoring and role modeling. The Charge nurse will also provide direct patient care.
Work Schedule:
1.0 FTE Night Shift (2300-0700), Monday through Friday, permanent Night Charge Nurse position. No scheduled weekends, holidays, or on-call duties.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Completion of accredited program in nursing. Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
- Two (2) years experience in area of specialty at 0.8 FTE, or above (minimum of 3328 hours).
- Licensed registered nurse by State of Minnesota
- Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers
Knowledge/Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of current nursing practices and techniques. Utilizes this knowledge in daily decision making (e.g. Care assignments).
- Knowledge of infection control practices and their relation to patient care outcomes.
- Knowledge of specialized equipment used in the care environment.
- Knowledge of the principles of anatomy, physiology, disease process, pharmacology, and psychology.
- Ability to manage the flow of patient activity on the unit.
- Excels at creating and sustaining a healing environment consistent with BCBE and Healthy Workplace standards.
- Ability to assess caregiver competence in the clinical setting.
- Understands basic concepts of flex staffing to meet work volumes and acuity demands.
- Has basic knowledge of financial principles and understands how Charge Nurse role impacts the organization as a whole.
- Assists the Nurse Manager/Supervisor in analyzing departmental data and incorporates this data to drive daily decision making.
