Job Description

Business Analyst, Mining

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Business Analyst, Mining to be based in Raleigh, NC office. This role blends technical expertise in geotechnical engineering with strategic consulting and client engagement, supporting global mining audit programs.

 

Key Responsibilities

As a Business Analyst, Mining, you’ll be expected to:

Program Advisory & Client Engagement

  • Support investor discussions and reporting for the Global Tailings Institute audit program.

  • Prepare presentations and technical materials on GISTM and Mining Consolidated Standards for the Global Mining Audit Program.

  • Provide crucial support in guiding clients through the program advisory process. Capable of taking responsibility for specific elements of program advisory tools and methodologies, the Consultant contributes to the development of a compelling case for change tailored to the client's situation.

  • Facilitate advisory processes for small programs, handling execution complexity and strategic value. May assist in program advisory activities for larger programs.

  • Support client engagement process, from initial contact and problem statement to analysis and solution development.

  • Assist in capture planning, client updates, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Collaborate with senior staff on sales presentations and proposal materials.

Geotechnical Technical Oversight and Field Support

  • Plan and oversee geotechnical exploration programs (approx. 30% field time).

  • Assisting with lab testing and assessing geotechnical evaluations (e.g., slope stability, seepage, settlement).

  • Review instrumentation data and assist in monitoring report preparation.

  • Analyze and present findings through technical reports and internal presentations.

Consulting & Delivery

  • Participate in site inspections and compliance discussions.

  • Support project planning, execution, and delivery across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Translate technical findings into client-ready insights and visuals.

 Core Consulting Competencies

All Technical Advisory team members are expected to:

  • Adaptable to work fluctuations to meet deliverable needs and occasionally work outside of traditional working hours when needed to support global teams and clients.

  • Structure and organize ambiguous problems and information, acting independently to drive progress.

  • Create and execute project plans with clear goals and measurable outcomes.

  • Use data, logic, and sound reasoning to make informed decisions under pressure.

  • Synthesize complex content into clear, actionable insights—both written and verbal.

  • Deliver polished work products including presentations, models, and reports.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Geology or Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Emphasis + 6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EIT Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, or Economics

  • Basic Knowledge of industry software such as GeoStudio, Utexas, Grapher and AutoCAD Civil3D.

  • Field/Construction experience; dams experience a plus. 

  • Familiarity with global mining standards and ESG-related reporting.
