Our Distribution Centers (DCs) serve as vital connections between factories and our customers around the world. The Supply Chain environment is dynamic and fast-paced, and the network is expanding rapidly. Medtronic is evolving our Supply Chain as a critical hub of our growth strategy. As the Engineering Program Director-Warehouse and Distribution Automation, you will utilize your engineering skills to support scaling new and existing automation systems across our global distribution centers. We seek a determined individual who can develop a technology strategy and roadmap for automation solutions across regions for various service offerings, DCs, and Manufacturing sites while working closely with cross-functional teams to implement these solutions.  As the Engineering Program Director-Warehouse and Distribution Automation, you will:

  

  • Design and implement differentiating automation solutions and system software to create scalable and flexible operations across all business lines. Our warehouse automation systems will incorporate the latest mechanical, electrical, robotic, and software technologies.

  • Conduct studies to determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow by analyzing production costs, process flow charts, and production schedules.

  • Recommend methods and work with our OPEX (Operational Excellence) teams to maximize the utilization of production facilities and personnel by restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing equipment in adherence with governmental, health, safety, and other regulations.

  • Provide best-in-class engineering design of distribution centers, operating processes, and equipment types. 

  • Facilitate solutions to complex problems with the team, which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation.  Drive change within the automation team and share that learning across other teams (and functions).   

Must-Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong knowledge of warehouse design, DC automation, material handling equipment and pick methodology, work measurement, labor management, slotting, and warehouse value-added services (i.e., kitting and labeling) 

Nice Have:

  • Excellent analytical/problem-solving capabilities and presentation skills.

  • Strong knowledge of Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies

  • Experience with SAP and warehouse management systems (WMS) and a strong understanding of distribution center systems.

  • Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and manage stakeholders at various levels.

  • Change agent, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines. Proven ability to interact and effectively communicate with executive management and all levels of the organization related to operational changes and strategic initiatives.

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, building credible relationships with multiple functions and key stakeholders.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%
