About the role
Summary
We’re seeking a detail-driven and user-obsessed Product Owner to lead day-to-day product development for the GeneDx patient portal. This is the primary digital hub through which patients track test status, complete key tasks, access results, and engage with support resources.
You’ll manage the product backlog for portal features, partner with Product Design and Engineering, and represent the voice of the patient.
You will be responsible for ensuring user experiences and communications are clear, secure, intuitive, and frictionless, while meeting critical operational, clinical, and regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Own the patient portal backlog, including story writing, prioritization, and sprint planning
- Lead cross-functional discovery to identify and prioritize user needs and pain points
- Partner with Product Design/UX, Engineering, QA, and other cross-functional stakeholders to implement features that improve usability, reduce friction, and are regulatory-compliant.
- Serve as internal expert on how the patient portal works, how it integrates with surrounding systems (e.g., LIMS, CRM, website), and where it’s headed.
- Translate user feedback into testable features and enhancements.
- Deliverables may include: product requirements documents (PRDs), feature specs, wireframes (working with Product Design/UX), MVP definitions, QA signoff documents, etc.
- KPIs may include:
- Portal test request drop-off rate
- Completeness and accuracy rates for data ingested via patient portal
- Feature adoption rates (e.g., upload health records, result downloads)
- Support ticket reduction related to patient portal functions
Education, Experience, and Skills
- 3–5 years of experience in product ownership or system-facing product roles
- Experience working on portals and/or digital health experiences, ideally in clinical, diagnostic, lab tech, and/or healthcare communication settings
- Technical fluency and comfort collaborating directly with Engineering counterparts, plus experience working with cross-functional teams including Product Design/UX, Commercial, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Engineering
- Demonstrated ability to think like a systems designer—mapping flows across multiple user types, channels, and points in the journey
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills paired with excellent execution and attention to detail.
- Deep empathy for end users and a commitment to making their experience simpler, faster, and more empowering.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies, digital transformation, human-centered design, and modern product discovery/delivery practices.
- A sense of ownership, humility, and mission-driven motivation to improve lives through better healthcare.
- Bachelor’s degree required; healthcare, technical or UX-related background preferred
