Summary
With guidance from the Director of the Tutoring and Writing Center, the Assistant Director coordinates the Center’s operations and administrative responsibilities, serving as a mentor and resource for students and tutors. The Assistant Director also assists the Director in managing and leading the greater tutor team in service to student learning and both the mission and strategic plan of the College.
Responsibilities/Primary Outcomes
Coordination, Operations, & Programming - 50%
Coordinates the daily and weekly operations of the Center, including but not limited to: responding to student inquiries and needs; responding to tutor needs and concerns; mentoring and supporting team of about 90 tutors; coordinating tutor and front desk schedules; establishing and supporting small group tutoring or study groups; troubleshoots with TutorTrac software; oversees print and email advertising and marketing; supervising the ASC desk leaders; promotes team and culture building; tutors several hours each week based on disciplinary background
Coordinates the seasonal operations of the Center, including but not limited to: assisting with tutor recruiting and interviewing; assisting with tutor training and professional development in alignment with CRLA standards; hiring new ASC desk leaders and work study students, and overseeing the data collection process for semester and annual assessment and reporting
Management, Leadership, & Strategic Planning - 30%
Assists the director with supervising the Tutoring & Writing Center graduate assistant, work study students, and peer and professional tutors
Assists the director with researching and assessing high impact models of academic support to complement current offerings; assists the director with establishing a vision and executing a strategic plan in alignment with that of the College and the Endicott Center for Teaching and Learning
Overseas one or more strategic priorities for the Tutoring and Writing Center, as discussed with the Director
Community Collaboration & Involvement - 15%
Participates actively and contributes in Division of Academic Success and Endicott Center for Teaching and Learning meetings and initiatives
Participates actively in campus committees and promotes the team in college-wide events
Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
Requirements/Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education, Higher Education, STEM, English, or a related field
- 2-4 years’ experience working in higher education; experience working in a learning center is preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to student learning and development; experience tutoring in a learning center preferred
- Familiarity with learning center philosophy and practice; applied knowledge is preferred
- Demonstrated administrative experience and skill
- Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills
- Strong teamwork, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills
