Job Summary
The individual in this position acts under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and provides assistance in dispensing functions, including: purchasing, inventory control of all drug classes, sterile product preparation and associated equipment maintenance, and automated dispensing cabinet equipment and inventory maintenance. Also performs technical duties to maintain pharmaceutical dispensing functions to all neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including inpatients and outpatients.

Job Responsibilities

-maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications
-deliver medications to patient care areas 
-attend to medication requests and phone calls 
-assist in Pharmacy quality assurance activities
-comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures 
-assist pharmacists in performing various duties as assigned

Education
Required:  High School Graduate or equivalent

Experience
Preferred:  Hospital Experience

Certifications
Required:  Registered Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacy Technician certification, as required by State law.  Accredited training in sterile products preparation

This individual’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner. Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner. Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately. Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records. Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins. Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas. Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications. Deliver medications to patient care areas. Attend to medication requests and phone calls. Prepare simple IV admixtures (excluding chemotherapy, biotherapy) accurately, consistent with IV policies and procedures (USPless than797> and USPless than800>). Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures. Assist in performing various duties as assigned.

Education:

Required: High school graduate or equivalent

Experience:

Required: Must be 18 years of age
Preferred: Hospital experience

Certifications:

Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician license/certification, as required by state law.
Preferred: Accredited training in sterile products preparation and IV Admixture Certification

Physical Demands:

Lift/position up to 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 50 lbs. of force. Frequent standing and walking. Frequent reaching, stooping, and bending. Manual dexterity, mobility, touch, auditory to perform all the related duties of the position
