Position Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to lead our Native American Affairs team. As the Native American Affairs Manager, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Barrick’s engagement with Indigenous communities, ensuring respectful and mutually beneficial relationships. You will serve as the liaison between the company and Indigenous communities/stakeholders, promoting cultural awareness, transparent communication and fostering meaningful economic opportunities through partnerships.
Responsibilities:
Native American Affairs Strategy:
- Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives and engage with Native American Tribes, aligning with the company’s goals and objectives.
- Lead the development and ongoing updates (including annual review) of stakeholder engagement planning documents and other governing documents related to Native American Affairs programming.
- Coordinate with mine general managers and site leadership to align Native American Affairs strategies with site strategic plans, life of mine plans, expansions, etc. to ensure buy-in.
- Manage the Native American Affairs annual budget, including but not limited to: monthly reconciliation, quarterly reporting to accounting, tracking of annual commitments/pledges and fulfilling requests from other functions.
Stakeholder Engagement Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Native American leaders, community members and businesses through transparent and regular communication, engagement, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations and industry partners, and community leaders to advanced shared goals and objectives.
- Build further understanding of Native American history and culture, fostering a culture of understanding and respect through education initiatives and training within the company.
- Lead the Native American Affairs Community Development Committee (CDC) to ensure project proposals are presented to the company and reviewed for funding consideration in a timely manner.
- Advocate for policies and practices within the company that respect and support the rights and interests of Native American communities, including environmental stewardship, cultural awareness & preservation and meaningful economic development.
- Work to empower Native American communities by supporting economic development opportunities, capacity-building initiatives, and cultural preservation efforts.
- Develop a Native American Affairs Strategy that aligns with Barrick’s Community Engagement and development strategy, which fosters genuine partnerships and looks for sustainable development opportunities throughout all facets of the business.
- Provide guidance and oversight on Native American stakeholder engagement and visit our partner tribes on a regular basis, promoting Barrick’s commitment to their communities.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to engagement activities, including meeting minutes, action trackers and commitment registers.
- Facilitate/Lead the quarterly Cultural Advisory Group meeting with Indigenous partners to facilitate meaningful discussions and gain input on projects.
- Oversee process and administration of Native American Scholarship programs to include Newe Numa Scholarship Foundation (NNSF), GBC Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), NA MTC, and Gold Scholarship programs.
- Track and report on NGM supported scholarship programs (NNSF, TAP, MTC, and Gold).
Reputation Management Responsibilities:
- Actively identify and monitor reputational risks associated with mines and projects in Nevada, and ensure these risks are being managed. Bring forward these risks to management when identified.

- Support the communications function with pro-active identification of opportunities to communicate Barrick’s Native American Affairs activities and impacts internally and externally.
