Fastening Engineer II, General Assembly

As a Fastening Engineer II, General Assembly, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of fastening strategies and systems used throughout the production process. This position requires expertise in fastening technologies, materials, and automotive manufacturing processes to ensure the highest levels of safety, performance, and cost-efficiency.
You will:
- Design & Development of Fastening Solutions: Develop fastening strategies for new vehicle models, ensuring that all fasteners meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards. Select and design fasteners (e.g., bolts, rivets, screws) based on material properties and vehicle specifications
- Torque and Fastening Specifications: Define and optimize torque settings for various fasteners and assembly processes. Ensure proper torque application to guarantee the structural integrity and durability of components
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with design engineers, production teams, quality assurance, and suppliers to communicate and implement fastening strategies. Collaborate with the R&D team to integrate new fastening technologies and innovations into vehicle design
- Fastening System Integration & Automation: Evaluate and implement automated fastening systems to streamline production. Ensure that robotic and manual fastening processes are optimized for speed, precision, and cost-efficiency
- Supplier & Vendor Management: Coordinate with external suppliers and vendors to source the right fasteners and tools for specific applications. Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality components that meet production needs
- Cost Management & Efficiency: Identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining the quality and reliability of fasteners. Work with procurement and manufacturing teams to source cost-effective fasteners and optimize inventory management
- Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Ensure that all fastening systems comply with industry regulations and standards, including safety and environmental requirements
You bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field is required
- At least 2+ years of professional experience in manufacturing is required
- Experience in fastening process (ideally setting up DC tooling controllers)
- Demonstrated leadership ability to build outstanding teams and interface well with senior management
- Strong knowledge of fastening technologies, including mechanical and automated fastening systems
- Experience with torque application, torque tools, and fastening equipment
- Proficient in CAD software and engineering design tools
- Familiarity with quality control processes, including testing and inspection of fasteners
- Knowledge of materials science, including fastener compatibility with different substrates
