Engineering Manager - Backstage

Interested in driving Spotify’s long-term investment in Backstage? We’re looking for an engineering leader to help build and guide a high impact, high leverage, and high visibility team that owns Backstage Software Catalog supporting millions of engineers at Spotify and external companies.As a leader in this space you’ll be contributing to the company wide technology asset management strategy related to the software components and resources and will have direct influence over strategic decisions.Your responsibilities will vary frequently. We all wear different hats and this role will span all facets from growing the team and continuously improving our engineering practices, to delivering state-of-the-art technology and collaborating with external Backstage adopters seeking support. All while collaborating with multiple teams across Spotify. We’re looking for someone who excels in a flexible environment!

What You'll Do

• Lead a team of engaged engineers -- building autonomy, mastery, and purpose
• Develop the people in the team through coaching, mentoring and management
• Communicate with and grow a vibrant open source community spanning 1000s of companies
• Drive and be accountable for technical delivery and work with your team on strategy and execution
• Facilitate collaboration together with engineering and product to tackle interesting and complex challenges across the platform
• Work with internal engineering teams, understand their pain points, and set a clear vision and roadmap to improve the effectiveness of the software development lifecycle
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Backstage engineering management team 
• Grow the technical expertise of your team

Who You Are

• You believe in entrepreneurial leadership, bottom-up culture, and are invested in developing both thriving engineers and cohesive teams
• There's a wealth of engineering experience in your background ideally coming from platform engineering or developer productivity space
• You are hardworking and have experience in leading, managing, coaching or mentoring software developers towards delivering timely, high-quality software with them
• You have demonstrated experience working with platform teams and open source projects
• Someone who's an empathetic communicator who enjoys working multi-functionally.
• You are experienced in building a collaborative environment which fosters a creative and playful culture
• You thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility

• We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!

The United States base range for this position is 156,275 - 223,250 USD, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. These ranges may be modified in the future.
