Team Leader (Assembly) - Seneca Battery - 12 Hour Day Shift

About the role

The Team Leader is responsible for total team functions relative to safety, quality, cost, delivery, and teamwork. Primary responsibilities of the Team Leader include but are not limited to daily monitoring of safety compliance, performance to KPI’s, delegation of work assignments, inventory management, training and support of team members, escalation of performance concerns, and consistent application of BorgWarner policies, procedures, and practices.

Standard Duties:

  • Ensure team compliance to safety and environmental rules and regulations. 
  • Conduct team huddles to communicate safety talks and other pertinent information. 
  • Ensure team compliance to QS9000/TS16949 guidelines. 
  • Foster and drive BorgWarner beliefs of Inclusion, Integrity, Excellence, Responsibility and Collaboration.
  • Perform inventory management to assist with on-time delivery, communicate deviations as necessary. 
  • Mentor, drive and support GMP’s and 5S standards.
  • Coordinate department priorities/delegate daily duties to team members .
  • Prepare schedules and coordinate activities to ensure production and quality objectives are attained.
  • Effectively escalate workplace concerns/employee relation issues to Area Leader.
  • Professionally and effectively communicate with team members, customers, support groups and management.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in their areas
  • Identify normal vs. abnormal condition and take immediate appropriate action.
  • Lead problem solving activities for their areas of responsibility.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for team in performing responsibilities and maintaining and driving continuous improvement of knowledge and skills.
  • Work with operators, automation technicians to assist in troubleshooting/problem solving activities for set-up, tool and equipment adjustments.
  • Assist the PQT in performing quality, SPC and documentation requirements.
  • Assist with the training and development of operators to ensure that the proper training metrics and documentation are completed.
  • Consistent delivery of policies, procedure, and practices.
  • Perform routine electronic assembly operations on components or subassemblies.
  • Load/unload machines while using proper handling equipment.
  • Use manual and battery-powered tools (i.e., crimps, stakes, screws, bolts, rivets, welds, solders, cements, press fits) according to work instructions.
  • Maintain compliance with records retention standards related to scrap reporting, downtime tracking, SPC, and set-up sheets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate production reporting. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety, Health & Physical Requirements:

  • Moderate to steady lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs.
  • Repetitive use of hands and wrist.
  • This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping, or kneeling, close eye work, reaching, pulling, or pushing.
  • Requires wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to operate and multi-task between 2 to 3 machines.
  • Able to crouch, bend, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
  • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color and depth variations and small details visually.
  • Punctual attendance to work is required.
  • All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with BorgWarner safety policies and procedures.
  • Up to 15% training related travel.

Education & Experience

Education: 

  • High School diploma/GED required, or basic skills assessment required.
  • Associates degree preferred.

Experience: 

  • 2+ years of leadership experience preferred.
  • 1+ year of manufacturing or related experience required.
  • Experience in fast paced industrial lean environment preferred.
  • Experience with troubleshooting machines/equipment preferred. 
  • Knowledge of electronic systems, integration, and heavy wiring a plus.
  • Ability to identify different wire gauges a plus.
