The Boeing Company is looking for a Bomber Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer to join our team at Edwards AFB, CA.  We are seeking an individual who can provide Instrumentation Operations Engineering support and leadership for the Bomber Combined Test Force (CTF) at Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB), California.

Edwards AFB is the home of the 412th Test Wing and the 2nd largest Air Force base.  The Wing oversees base day-to-day operations and provides support for over 10,000 military, federal civilian and contract personnel assigned to a 481-square mile installation.  The 412th Test Wing plans, conducts, analyzes, and reports on all flight and ground testing of aircraft, weapons systems, software and components as well as modeling and simulation for the U.S. Air Force.  There are three core components for this mission: flying operations, maintenance and engineering.

The Boeing Company supports multiple platforms at Edwards AFB.  This posting is for the support of the 419th Flight Test Squadron, Global Power Combined Test Force (CTF) where Boeing works directly with our Air Force customer and our industry partners supporting its mission to improve the warfighting capabilities of the Air Force through system integration, development, test and evaluation of the B-1 Lancer and B-52 Stratofortress of the Bomber Aircraft Family.

The site is comprised of a diverse team of Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) employees who are extremely motivated, skilled, knowledgeable, and highly valued by our customers and business partners.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Mid-Level and Senior Level Bomber Flight Test Instrumentation Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate directly with Air Force engineering to determine and implement detailed instrumentation and data requirements for military aircraft testing

  • Determine options for instrumenting systems to support the evaluation process

  • Design instrumentation systems necessary to collect data from military aircraft testing

  • Design component and sub-assembly level hardware or software for instrumentation systems

  • Create engineering drawings and instructions to build and test instrumentation systems

  • Lead the building and installation process for instrumentation systems

  • Collaborate with systems test engineering in developing effective test methods

  • Perform instrumentation systems pre- and post-flight operations and validate data collection systems for flight

  • Develop fault isolation and characterization steps to troubleshoot instrumentation systems

  • Supports development of test debrief material

  • Participates in evaluation of test performance data

  • Reviews test data for accuracy, quality and/or fidelity prior to delivery to customer

  • Alerts senior engineers of off-nominal data

  • Prepare test reports for review

  • Works under general supervision

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 3+ years of experience with flight test, flight operations, or system test

  • 1+ years of experience in complex test planning, development, and execution

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 4: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience working with Accelerometers, Pressure sensors, Temperature sensors, Force sensors, Strain gages, position and acoustic sensors and flowmeters

  • Understanding of mechanical design and the ability to decipher engineering drawings

  • Experience or knowledge of RS422/RS232, cPCI, TTC, TCP/IP & Ethernet, and MIL-STD-1553 communication standards, protocols, and/or interfaces

  • Experience with system requirements analysis, schematic analysis and design, interface hardware design, and hardware/software integration

  • Proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modeling
