Job Description

DIRECTOR OF LEARNING

  I.   Summary

            Title:   Director of Learning

            Reports to:  Vice President and General Manager

            Status:  Full-Time Salaried, Exempt

II.   Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Oversee and manage the Education and Community Engagement Program Manager.
2. Manage, execute, and evaluate existing education programs to ensure alignment with the Association’s mission, vision, and resource allocation. These programs include but are not limited to, Young People’s Concerts, Curb Open Dress Rehearsals, Accelerando, Curb Concerto Competition, Choral/Orchestral Festival, and Side-by-Side performances.
3. Together with the Director of Community Engagement, manage, execute, and evaluate existing education and community programs that include but are not limited to Sectionals, Ensembles in the Schools, Master Class Series, Chamber Music Series, Family Series, and residency programs.
4. Together with the VP and General Manager and the Director of Community Engagement, prepare, manage, reconcile and demonstrate accountability for education components of the Association budget and resources.
5. Approve invoices and payroll for applicable educational programs.
6. Ensure the timely and effective communication of all details of education programs to appropriate Association staff and community and cultural partners for execution by production, marketing, development and partnership personnel.
7. Collaborate with programming team to plan and execute Education performances that utilize the full orchestra, including but not limited to Young People’s Concerts, Family Series performances, and Side-by-Side performances.
8. In consultation with the appropriate staff, volunteers, community and cultural partners, seek new opportunities and design appropriate programs to expand educational offerings.
9. Work in conjunction with and cultivate school, performing arts and civic and cultural partnerships to establish on-going productive relationships and capitalize on combined partnerships, shared resources, cross promotion and creative programming.
10. Together with the Director of Community Engagement, serve as primary education and community relations representative(s) of the Association.
11. Participate in committees, as assigned, including the Education Board Committee and work to review, monitor and address issues brought forth during such meetings.
12. Work collaboratively with our musicians to develop their active participation, and support for, our EDCE activities using their talents to create positive impact throughout the community.

1. Together with the Marketing, Communications, and Development teams, coordinate documentation and storytelling around education programming to create awareness and support for the Association’s mission-based work.
2. Adheres to all rules and regulations set forth in Collective Bargaining Agreement. 

The duties listed above are not all inclusive.  The person in this position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.

IV.        Work Requirements and Qualifications

            1.   Education

Essential:  Bachelor’s Degree in music performance, music education, or arts administration and/or equivalent professional work experience.

Preferred:  Master’s Degree or other advanced training in music education or arts administration and/or equivalent professional work experience.
